Cookies For Santa

Every year I like to make a little gift to give colleagues, friends, and neighbors.  I found a really cute idea here.  Each of these jars contain the recipe for some delicious Christmas cookies.
I made quite a few of these!  To make them you add the following ingredients to quart-sized mason jars in layers:
1 1/3 cup flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup rolled oats
3/4 cup Christmas M&Ms (you could customize for any holiday)
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)
You really have to pack each layer in for all of the ingredients to fit.
I added an 8 x 8 inch piece of fabric to the top of the jars and tied a 24 inch piece of ribbon around the lid.  I downloaded the cute tag from here, copied it onto scrapbook paper, and used a 2-inch circle punch to cut it out.  I attached each tag to the front of the jars with my tape gun. I also added a tag to the back of the jar with the instructions for making the cookies:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Stir ingredients into a large bowl.  Add 1/2 cup softened butter, 1 slightly beaten egg, and 1 tsp. vanilla extract.  Combine thoroughly.  Roll into 1 1/2 inch balls and bake for 10 minutes.
It took me one evening to put these together.  I added each ingredient to all of the jars in an assembly line and that worked well.  I would recommend using wide-mouth jars and a funnel to minimize the mess.  Now all I have to do is deliver them!
