Ghost Cupcakes

I found these ghost cupcakes here and I thought they were so cute that I decided to try making fondant again.  Yeah...they're cute but what a pain in the aspirations!
Make a batch of cupcakes.  I made chocolate from a mix.  Make some buttercream frosting and frost your cupcakes.  Cut about one inch from the sticks of 12 tootsie pops, remove the wrappers, and place in the middle of the cupcake.
Then make your fondant.  This is the recipe that I used:
1 cup light corn syrup
1 cup shortning
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. salt
2 lbs. powdered sugar (one bag)
Mix the corn syrup and sugar in a large bowl.  Add vanilla and salt.  Gradually add the powdered sugar until a soft dough forms.  Eventually I kneaded it by hand.  Place some powdered sugar on your work surface and roll dough until about 1/8 inch thick.  You want to cut circles about 4 to 5 inches in diameter.  I didn't have a cookie cutter that size so I used a margarita glass.  Drape the fondant over the tootsie pops.  Place two mini chocolate chips in the fondant for the eyes.
I have decided that I don't like fondant.  I had a really hard time working with it this time.  Maybe I need to try another recipe before I give up on it completely?  These cupcakes are seriously cute, though, so you should give them a try!
