Here is the major sewing project that I have been alluding to for the past several weeks! I am very happy that I was able to get it finished before Christmas!
I am most certainly not a fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers (as you may know I love the Denver Broncos) but the recipient of this quilt loves them.
When I was in my favorite store getting fabric to make trick-or-treat bags for Sean and Tashena, I saw some NFL fabric near the cutting table. I kept looking over at it so the ladies showed me a rag quilt made out of the Green Bay Packers fabric. I had made a rag quilt before and thought it might be fun to make one out of the Steelers fabric. The ladies, who like to egg me on, told me that I should buy it now because it would go quickly, especially the Steelers fabric. I didn't buy it but I kept thinking about it. I couldn't stop thinking about it! I finally decided one Sunday that if the Steelers won their game (they were behind) I would make the quilt. They won so I went back to buy the fabric the next day (there was barely enough of the black pattern left).
When I made my first rag quilt (go here for the tutorial) it was during the summer when I had a lot more free time and that quilt was much smaller than this one. Sometimes I bite off more than I can chew! Even though I did stay up late many nights trying to get it finished, I really enjoyed working on it! It turned out better than I expected and I am quite proud of it!
As an added bonus, the recipient loved it!
